Calgary Stampede 2018

Soldiers of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment have been busy during this year’s Calgary Stampede. Since receiving the new Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV), Calgary’s Reserve Armoured Regiment has been eager and excited to showcase and display it out to Calgarians.

We are immensely excited to display our brand new TAPV, this is the first time ever that it will be displayed at the Calgary Stampede.

Leading up to Calgary Stampede, on 5 July 2018, a crew was sent out to support the annual Alberta Children’s Hospital Mini Stampede. This event allows children who are unable to travel to the Calgary Stampede, the ability to check out a little of what they might miss. The King’s Own have been participating in this annual event and this year marked the first time the TAPV was out for display.

On 6 July 2018, the King’s Own dispatched 2 TAPVs to participate in the Calgary Stampede Parade. In the early morning, King’s Own soldiers prepped the TAPVs and departed with a police escort to the staging area. With us was a Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle, courtesy of the British Army base at CFB Suffield. Joining us on the parade in one of the TAPVs was 41 Brigade Commander, Colonel Eppo van Weelderen and 41 Brigade Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Brian Talty.

In the second TAPV we had King’s Own Calgary’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Hunt. This was the first time the King’s Own have participated in providing Armoured Vehicles for the Calgary Stampede Parade!

From 6 July to 15 July, the King’s Own Calgary Regiment will be displaying the TAPV during the Calgary Stampede. We are joined by our Regular Force counterparts and other Reserve regiments of 41 Brigade. We also have the Navy and Air Force with us for the Canadian Forces Display. We will be located near the South Entrance just past the bridge going over the Elbow River. If you have any questions regarding the TAPV please do not hesitate to ask one of the King’s Own soldiers (they are easily identified by their Black Smithbilt Cattleman Cowboy Hats and King’s Own Cap Badge! – Same hats that the Calgary Police Service use during Calgary Stampede – Calgary’s iconic Cowboy Hat).

We are immensely excited to display our brand new TAPV, this is the first time ever that it will be displayed at the Calgary Stampede. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to check out this new Armoured Fighting Vehicle!

ONWARD!
