Is a soldier’s daily rate
after two years of service.
All training and work in the Reserves is paid. All members of the Reserves are paid based on their rank, on a fixed daily rate of pay. If you attend a full day of work, you receive a full days pay. If you work less than six hours, for example an evening, you receive half that amount.
Your pay will automatically be deposited into your bank account of a financial institution of your choice, on the 15th and the last day of each month. The usual deductions will be made for income taxes, Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance. Currently a new private is paid $90.30 per day.
Reserve Transportation Assistance Allowance
An allowance payable when your residence is greater than 16 km (to a max of 80 km) from your place of work.
Accommodations and Meals
While on training or duty that takes you away from home, accommodations and meals will be provided.
Education Reimbursement
For selected post secondary studies, with qualifying service in the Reserves, reimbursement of 50% of course costs to a maximum of $2,000 annually and up to $8,000 total is available.
Uniforms
You will be issued with all uniforms and equipment. You are entitled to free exchanges when needed. Everything issued is on loan and must be returned when you leave the Reserves.
Medical Care
While on full time service, medical care is through the Canadian Forces Medical System. Emergency on-duty care and required medicals are provided for Reservists. Comprehensive coverage is provided for Reservists on full time service.
Public Service Health Care Plan
Reservists are eligible to join the Public Service Health Care Plan. This plan provided supplementary health benefits such as drug benefits, glasses, some medical practitioner services and hospital costs
Reserve Dental Care Plan
While on duty, treatment for all dental injuries to Reservists is provided by Military Dental Care. After three months of service, Reservists may join the Reserve Dental Care Plan. Members on part-time service receive dental care for themselves only. Most regular services are reimbursed at 90% to a yearly maximum of $1,250 per year per covered person. Major services are reimbursed at 50%, orthodontic services are subject to a separate lifetime limit of $2,500 per person.
Parental Leave
Reservists with at least six months of service may be entitled to maternity and/or parental leave and allowances.
Reserve Force Retirement Gratuity
A severance benefit that recognizes prolonged Reserve Force service.
Reserve Force Pension
A pension package is currently being prepared for Reservists.
