The training year begins in September and runs through to the end of May. During summer, cadets are given the opportunity to attend a number of different camps across Canada, from the very elementary Basic Cadet, a two week course for new cadets, to a Parachuting Course for the most senior cadets. These camps are offered to cadets on a merit system and those who attend the yearly training are normally rewarded with their choice of camps.
The entire program for cadets has been designed to allow the youth of our communities to be taught the basic skills of any strong member of a community. The leadership skills learned in all areas of training provide cadets with excellent skills for their future careers outside of the military. Cadets develop self-confidence and a sense of pride for their country.
Drill training involves learning stationary drill as well as marching and in the advanced stages of training, cadets are taught drill using weapons for special parades.
Bush and Field Craft are made up of the basic skills required to comfortably stay in the field for any time period. Cadets are taught how to respect the natural environment as well as how to care and maintain equipment used in the field.
Marksmanship and Small Arms Training involves educating cadets about different weapons including air rifles and 22 calibre rifles. Cadets are taught how to properly handle and respect all weapons as well as how to handle, fire and clean them.
