The King’s Own Calgary Regiment Leadership Group
It is a tradition within the Canadian Army to ask a prominent member of the civilian or military community to accept the appointment as a mark of their recognition and respect for him. The Colonel does not involve himself in the military operation of the regiment, but is concerned with its ceremonial, social and family aspects and provides a link to the community.
Mr. Michael Lang has been involved in the development and financing of businesses throughout his career. In 1985 he left the Mercantile Bank to join Geopetrol Resources Ltd., a private venture capital company. Geopetrol Resources Ltd. which invested in a variety of companies including Beau Canada Exploration Ltd.
Ms. Southern-Heathcott is President & Chief Executive Officer of Spruce Meadows Ltd., an internationally recognized equestrian facility in Calgary, Alberta. As a former professional equestrian rider, Ms. Southern-Heathcott was a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team for nine years and competed in the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Southern-Heathcott was appointed Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of ATCO in November 2016 and of Canadian Utilities and CU Inc. on March 1, 2017.
The commanding officer is solely responsible for the training, administration and conduct of the Regiment both in the field and in garrison.
The Regimental Sergeant Major is the senior serving soldier of the Regiment and is charged with the discipline of the non-commissioned officers and with the supervision of their duties.
LCol Watts joined the King’s Own Calgary Regiment as a private and completed all Reserve armoured direct fire and armoured reconnaissance courses to the rank of Corporal before commissioning and completing the RESO program. He has had a variety of troop and squadron command appointments with the King’s Own. He has held staff positions at regimental headquarters as well as with 41 CBG Battle School...
Chief Warrant Officer Troy MacGillivray was born in Calgary and raised on a farm North -West of Airdrie. He was a member of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment Cadet Corp from 1982 to 1987. He paraded with the Cadet Corps in Cochrane, as well as attending cadet training and leadership courses throughout Canada and the United Kingdom during this time.
