KOCR Foothills Training Detachment Opens

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, the King’s Own Calgary Regiment (KOCR) celebrated the opening of the KOCR Foothills Training Detachment.  Located in the 187th Foothills Air Cadets training facility, at the High River Regional Airport, the KOCR Foothills Training Detachment serves to train recruits from High River and surrounding communities.

“We will be running training here on Wednesday nights so that soldiers can attend classes and still get home at a decent hour as opposed to driving all the way to downtown Calgary.”

Bringing the military pomp and circumstance for the evening were members of the KOCR Brass Band.  The ribbon cutting ceremony was preceded with opening words from Lieutenant-Colonel Chris Hunt, Commanding Officer, KOCR, and Capt. Reid Habing, CO of the Foothills (187) Air Cadet Squadron.  Joining in on the ceremony were members of the KOCR, the 187th Foothills Air Cadets, members of the public and his Worship, Bill Robertson, Mayor of Okotoks.

Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to get an up-close look at the military vehicles and equipment on display.  They were also given an opportunity to talk with members of the unit about the Army and current employment opportunities.

“If you like ATV driving, if you like shooting, if you like being in the outdoors, this is an ideal job and we’ll pay you to do it.”
