The Annual Regimental Ball is held on the weekend closest to St. George’s Day (April 23), and is an important Regimental celebration for the King’s Own.

St. George’s Day is annual celebration that has been conducted by the King’s Own Calgary Regiment since 1927, when it was adopted by the King’s Own from our Allied Regiment, the King’s Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster). It is celebrated on the closest Sunday to the 23rd of April, and closely follows the Regimental birthday of April 1.

St. George is the Patron Saint of England, and his knightly attributes of honour, bravery and gallantry are what many Cavalry and Armoured Regiments, such as the King’s Own, seek to exemplify. The soldiers of the King’s Own wear a red rose behind their cap badges on St. George’s Day: the red rose is the current emblem of England, adopted after the victory of the House of Lancaster (red rose) over the House of York (white rose) during the War of the Roses (1455-1485).
